When you have your wedding, and where you have your wedding, will affect the overall cost of the wedding and reception considerably. Periods of high demand for weddings or other social occasions, and venues that are in high demand, will be more costly. If you can be flexible you can reduce cost considerably. Remember, there are many great places to hold your wedding and reception, and there are also many times of the year (and times of the day and week) that should be able to fit your schedule and provide a memorable occasion.
1. Choose a non-
a. Early November, January, February (not Valentine’s Day) or March generally offer savings. Try to avoid June, July, September and October.
b. Avoid holidays.
c. Have your wedding on a day other than Saturday or on a non-
d. Plan your wedding and reception for the morning or around lunch time.
e. If you are having your wedding at a vacation destination, consider a date that is during the off season for travel in that region.
2. Choose a location for your wedding and/or reception that is affordable (or perhaps even free) and save significantly, while enjoying a memorable occasion. Many wedding/reception locations are so unique or beautiful that only minimal decorations and flowers are required.
a. If your wedding is not very large, consider a home wedding and/or reception.
b. Consider privately owned locations such as a private garden or beautiful farmhouse (or almost any other location like art galleries and theaters), and ask the owner if you could hold your wedding there. Be creative. Perhaps you have a friend with a beautiful house or beautifully landscaped yard. Or perhaps you have a friend that has a membership at a country club and you can get a discount.
c. Public areas such as parks, museums and public gardens may be very affordable and a beautiful setting for a wedding. Keep in mind a permit may be necessary.
d. Organizations such as your church or place of worship, local clubs, community centers or even the fire department may have reception halls available with full kitchens that would be perfect for your reception.
e. Some local restaurants and hotels may also offer low budget wedding receptions.
f. Be creative. There is a great location for your wedding and/or reception that will fit your budget and provide a great occasion. Get recommendations from family and friends. Ask around, you will find it.
